Watermelon Margaritas

Updated: Aug 3, 2020

There are 3 main ways to serve Margaritas! Frozen, On the Rocks(Unfrozen, with Ice), or Straight up (No Ice)! I put out a STELLAR Frozen Margarita recipe on my Instagram page (@The_Yes_Chef) last year, but thought that the recipe could use a little revamp!

My recipe below is for 2 generous portions of Watermelon Margarita, and you can serve it any of the ways I mentioned above!

Since I served mine straight up and garnished with a slice of Watermelon, the main thing I wanted to make sure of, including accurate measurements of my ingredients, were the following things:

  1. The Watermelon that you use to get your juice should be RIPE! If it's not, it will not actually add any flavor to the drink, and instead just make it watery. Here are a couple tricks I like to use to make sure that my Watermelon is sweet enough to use for Margaritas:

    1. Pick a good Watermelon at the store (or farm!). Choose a melon that has a YELLOW field spot. If the field spot is light green or white, the melon will not be as sweet. If you're into slapping fruit to test ripeness, a lower, more hollow sound will indicate that a Watermelon is riper, rather than a higher-pitched sound.

    2. Use the middle, sweetest portion of the Watermelon for the juice you use in the Margarita. The outer edges of the Watermelon, closest to the white rind, will always be the least sweet portions of the melon.

Ingredients:

2 oz. Triple Sec

3 oz. Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice

4 oz. Tequila

4 oz. Fresh Watermelon Juice (From a RIPE Watermelon!)

Directions:

  1. For serving a Margarita straight up, I highly recommend chilling your watermelon slices before juicing to ensure an extra cool drink.

  2. If you're making your own watermelon juice, you can feel free to use a juicer, or even just blend or smash the fruit, and then strain the pulp out. If you are serving your Margaritas Frozen, add 1-1 1/2 Cups of ice, and feel free to leave your Watermelon slices whole when blending; no need to strain.

  3. Combine Triple Sec, Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice, Your Favorite Brand of Tequila and Fresh Watermelon Juice in a shaker with 1/2 Cup of ice.

  4. Shake Vigorously!

  5. Serve immediately (leaving the ice in the shaker) in your favorite Margarita glass, Mason Jar, or any container that can hold pure bliss within it (aka these Watermelon Margaritas!) Garnish with a slice of Watermelon!
