Muddled Mint Mojito

Updated: Jul 16, 2020

Limes are the one fruit that you will ALWAYS find in our kitchen; mainly because we love to cook with them, but they are also necessary ingredients in our favorite drinks; Moscow Mules, Margaritas, and Mojitos! (You also need them to make the best Guacamole you've ever had, which pairs perfectly with any of the aforementioned summer cocktails!).

Using my recipe, even classic Mojito snobs will be impressed by your skillful bartending skills, and say that these amazing Muddled Mint Mojitos are inarguably refreshing and delicious!

The major differences between my recipe for Mojitos and others that you may come across which make The Yes Chef Kitchen Mojitos far superior!

  • Fresh Mint from the garden! My favorite varieties for this particular recipe are Sweet Mint and Spearmint, since they are light and not overpowering but still flavorful. If you don't already have Mint in your garden, I highly suggest planting some in the summer months since it grows like a weed! (Which makes mint for these cocktails a one-time investment of just a few bucks for the entire summer!)

  • Simple Syrup! When you add granulated sugar to any cocktail, even if you're blending it, it causes the drink to become grainy; the undissolved sugar sinks to the bottom of the glass and doesn't end up providing the sweetness that you hoped it would. The easiest solution is to use Simple Syrup instead of regular sugar. You can buy it from the store, or you can make your own! (I always make my own; just add 1 Cup of Water to a non-stick pan on Medium High Heat, and dissolve 1 Cup of granulated sugar into it. Stir and let it bubble until it reduces in size by at least 25%, and then put it aside on a different burner to let it cool. You will have plenty of extra simple syrup for this recipe and others that you want to try! Put your extra syrup in a Mason Jar and use it whenever you need it!

  • Extra Lime: A classic mojito requires lime juice! However, normally bartenders just throw a few lime quarters into the glass and muddle it with the mint. This is totally fine, but personally I prefer a much more significant dose of lime to carry the mint flavor and provide more tartness to balance out the sweetness of the simple syrup.

This recipe makes 2 amazing Mojitos!

Ingredients:

1/8 Cup Lime Juice (About 2 Limes Juiced), + Lime Quarters for Garnish

2 Tbsp. Simple Syrup

1 Cup Club Soda

4 oz. White Rum (I prefer Barcardi)

15 Mint Leaves, +Extra for Garnish!

Ice Cubes for each glass

Directions:

  1. Juice your limes and add the juice to a large glass.

  2. After washing your Mint Leaves well, add to the glass with the lime juice.

  3. With a muddler, muddle the Mint with the Lime Juice for at least 15 seconds.

  4. Transfer the Lime and Mint to a cocktail shaker and add the Rum and the Simple Syrup. (If you want to make your own simple syrup, follow the instructions I provided at the top of the post).

  5. Add ice to the shaker and shake well for 10-15 seconds.

  6. Put fresh ice cubes in two tall glasses, and strain the Mint Mojito Mixture into each glass evenly. Top with club soda (1/2 cup per glass), and garnish with more Mint & Lime (or Sugar Cane if you're feeling extra fancy!)
